Northern Writers' Awards

For the last few years, alongside working in glass, I've been writing a children's book inspired by the magical world of glass-blowing. Last summer, I was lucky enough to win a 3,000 'Northern Writers' Award' from New Writing North, supported by Northumbria University and Arts Council England. Aside from the financial aspect of the award, knowing that someone in the industry has seen promise in my work is a real confidence booster. More than that, though, as any struggling writer knows, finding an agent is often the hardest step, and whilst I've not yet found representation, the doors the award has opened - thanks to New Writing North - have been invaluable in helping my submission stand out from the crowd.

The closing date for this year's award is February 2nd so, whether you're an enthusiastic writers' group member, or a closet-writer like me, my advice would be to give it a go. All the info you need can be found on the New Writing North website:

Good luck!
